Default Re: Love the ideas...

The Audi already has one of these features.

"the passenger side mirror moving down (for curb view) when
putting the car in reverse. "

If you select the passenger mirror on the power mirror *** then it will do this automatically when the car is in reverse.

Default NICE!

"If you select the passenger mirror on the power mirror *** then it will do this automatically when the car is in reverse."

Ran outside, tried it, worked. How did you figure this out? Is it in the manual?

Default Whoa, what version are you talking.

In the 99.5 and older, the three wire interface went only to:
trip computer
Radio..

the three wire interface is
RX data
TX data
CLOCK.
Thats all I know at this point.

Anyone here work for VDO?

Default Hey anyone decide to go further, pls email me (more info)

I have a dash cluster AND
a factory radio on my bench.
I just haven't had time to work on this.

Also have a PIC processor (used on another project)
that I would use to convert the protocol from whatever to ASCII RS232.

Be advised
in my research

the display between the radio and the cluster is 3 wires:
RX data
TX data
CLOCK

This interface is DIFFERENT from the interface
used for the OBDII which is composed of
K wire
L wire.

Which (having only briefly looked at) is different
from CAN bus definition.

Really once I hook up the bench system, its a matter of using an anylser to decode the packets.

Default Have a 2000 A6, should be same as your A4

The reason why I think there's more here, is because the NAV system can hook into the display. There's either another bus that can access the screen, or the CAN bus has a gateway to that screen somewhere. The latter seems more likely since trip-computer info is displayed here, as is the tranny interlock and other stuff.
