Default Drivers door won't stay locked with key fob

Lately when I lock the car via the key fob sometimes it will unlock itself. I'll click to lock, the alarm engages, lock goes down then after about 1-2 seconds the alarm turns off and the driver’s door will unlock. This isn't consistent as sometimes I'll lock and wait and everything is fine. Also, if I try to lock manually the alarm will engage and the locks will go down but sometimes I've walked away and come back to my car with the alarm blasting (all locks still down). Pretty annoying!

I've searched for this issue but all I could find were instances where people aren't able to unlock or the fob doesn't work at all. The only think I haven't tried just yet (I will) is to disengage the motion sensor and see if that somehow if the cause of the problems.

Could be a short in the wire harness to the driver's door. Sometimes wires short in the rubber boot from the door to the body by the hinges.

Sounds like the drivers door latch has gone bad. the microswitch is faulty and thinking your unlocking it with the key. or the other microswitch in it may suddenly think its open sets off the alarm.

The door latch on the inside of the drivers door is loose (seems like there is some play in the cable). I wondered if that could be the cause.

Your posting to a 2 and half year old thread, even the OP did not return to claim what he found.

Check the door harness wires and the latch switch as mentioned.

jcman, Thanks for your response! I fully realize I was posting to an old thread. I thought this might pop up on someone's radar! Perhaps even the OP who might post his results. I've posted in appropriate forums both here & AZ with little results other than "disconnect the battery for 5 minutes & try it again"! Which I did to no avail! I'll leave the car with my mechanic over the upcoming week and let him pull apart the door & check wiring & latch switch.

Vagcom may not show any errors, but it can monitor the state of the switch in your door latch mechanism. It's probably the driver front door, since that is the one most used, and the one with which you are having a problem.

there are a few other possibilities ..

the wiring harness to the trunk is notorious for going bad and shorting out . the cable breaks at the flex point and the wires short shorting out to each other. I took mine apart and fixed it . You will get all kinds of wierd errors with this .

Also it may think the key is in the ignition. I don't think it will lock and pop it back open if it thinks the key is in it.

If it is the drives door module you can get them on line rom China for about 40 bucks. neither one I got had the alarm sensing in them so the alarm never alarms 9 never sees the drivers door as locked so wont arm the alarm . im fine with it as the alarm going off in the middle of the night and killing my battery is a pain in the **** anyway.
