Driveshaft and halfshaft bolt help
I am in the process of taking my motor and tranny out. The starbolts on the front half shaft and the L-wrench bolts on the drive shaft are being stubborn. Now the inside is stripped and I can't think of anyway to get them out. Does anyone have any idea's on how I would do this? Would cutting off the heads of the bolts to slide the parts off, then useing a vice grip help any? I am going to replace those bolts since they are stripped. Please help I want to finish fixing my car.
Thankyou

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. I find that when a bolt is stubborn>>>
heat sometimes helps. But, if you've rounded off the fastener, cutting off the head will prolly allow dissasembly, then vice-grips should remove the rest of the bolt. You should prolly invest in a quality set of 1/2" drive allen sockets and triple square sockets. Good luck!!

http://www.zdmak.com/</a

L bolts? The best advice would have been to not strip them initially.
Those bolts are tight, but with the right tools they should come out without issue. I'd use an air chisel or hand chisel to turn them out.
Why are you tearing the car apart?

Do a search for 'EZ Out' or 'bolt extractor'...
Extractors, IME, are essentially male drill bits that bit into the inside of as stripped out Allen, triple-square, etc. bolt head.
The EZ-Out is the inverse, a female 'socket' that also bites into the head of ANY bolt/screw...but on the outside.
Good luck with it, and make sure you have the right tools for the install job...and replace the damaged (or all) bolts.

If you have access to a MIG or TIG welder, build up the head of the bolt for VG access...
the heat will loosen the bolt and it will spin out easily. Works great with manifold studs broken off flush also. What's an L bolt?

I would take a drill with bit the size of the bolt hole then drill thru the head until the head
spins loose on the drill bit. Pull the drive shaft and if there is enough threads left, thread 2 nuts on the bolt, 1 as a jam nut. Then use a box end wrench on the inner nut to screw out the bolt. And don't forget to swear, alot!
