Not the case at all, go through the learning procedure to add a new frequency.

Make sure you're using the same TYPE of transmitter, though... there were early three buttons, and later four buttons, I'm not sure if they are compatible.

Go to a VW dealer to cut the key...

The kids that did it for me didn't even charge me. They were bored and watching Scarface on their computer in the parts department.
