Default ECU for 2000 A6 2.7t ???

Hi,
I am trying to determine the part number for an ECU on my 00 A6 2.7t, unfortuantely the dealer is closed today or else I would call.

Is there an easy way to determine the part number? Is it based on VIN...etc etc. Also, is it possible to use the ECU from an S4 since they have the same engine?

Thanks in advance,

Default 2 ways to find out: pull the shroud and look at the part # sticker, or scan it with VAG tool.

Not directly correlated to on VIN, but of course you can usually narrow it down to a couple based on configuration and build date.

Generally speaking, an S4 box won't work. A couple of exceptions, though -- if you're going to chip it, ask the vendor about specific compatibility. You have a slightly better chance since you don't have Immobilizer.

Default Easiest way is to open plastic box. The bolt in the rear can

be a bit of a pain. I have a 2000 2.7T 6 speed and my ECU number is:

4B0 907 551 K.
If you need one, I recommend you look for one other than dealer. I bought mine from Diamond AutoSports @ 1 800 236 7731. I worked with Scott. Price was $240 delivered.

Good luck

1. I am looking at one which matches your part number except the last letter is a "L" not K. Does this matter?

2. Do you think it would matter how many miles were logged on it?

Thanks,

Default Yes, it matters. That suffix is exactly what designates one version from another.

Yes, the versions are different between manuals and automatics.

His K and your L may, or may not (likely not) be compatible -- especially if you have a Tiptronic.

That L may, or may, not even work in your car. First thing to do is check what version you have. Then check with the tuner if you're chipping.

What are you trying to accomplish? If you're just replacing a stock box, you're safer looking for an exact match. Your everyday mechanic likely won't know about compatibility across boxes or how to make it work if it's even possible.

And theoretically the mileage shouldn't matter *much* since it's electronic equipment. What's more important is how it was handled.

Okay thanks for the heads up.

Sounds like I need to crack my hood and get the part number. My intentions are for chipping and would be bitter if the new one doesn't work because I have a 6 speed transmisson.

The ECU is under the same panel that the battery is under? a couple hex bolts holding it in right?

Default Yes, ECU is located under the dust cover on driver's side...like I said

the hex bolt in the back is a little tricky. If you are chipping and can do without your car for a few days, you can remove ECU and send out fedex. Most tuners can turn around in a day or two. Or you can buy another ECU that matches yours (from the source I gave you in an earlier post)and have a spare while you ship yours off for chipping. Having a spare ECU might pay off later in the event you have a chip failure (like I did). Plus, you can always sell your spare ECU if you sell your car.

good luck

Vag-com says mine (same year) is a "k" box. Visual inspection has confirmed this.
