Default EGT Sensor codes?

Had to pull codes last night to check something and I am getting these:

17861 - Exhaust Gas Temp Sensor 1 (G235): Open or Short to Plus
P1453 - 35-00 - -
17865 - Exhaust Gas Temp Sensor 2 (G236): Open or Short to Plus
P1457 - 35-00 - -

I replaced both of these with new less than 18 months ago and I have never actually seen these codes stop generating. What else will throw these codes if the EGT itself is actually good? I saw someone say there is a way to test the EGTs with Vag-Com. How do you do this?

Incidentally, I just found this after more searching...

http://www.vaglinks.com/Docs/Audi/C5...GT_Testing.pdf

If wire connection is OK:
If the same malfunction occurs again after replacing the exhaust gas
temperature sensor:
Repair Manual, 2.7 Liter V6 5V BiTurbo Fuel Injection & Ignition,
Engine Code(s): APB; Repair Group 24
- Check following wire connections for open circuit and short circuit to
Ground (GND) and B+:
Harness connector
terminal
VAG 1598/31 test box
Bushing
1 (Bank 1) 61
1 (Bank 2) 20
2 50
- Replace exhaust gas temperature sensor.
- Replace Engine Control Module (ECM).

I am thinking I need to get another ECM and test it to see this changes things. Thoughts?

Get a custom stage 1 tune (if you don't have one yet) and code them out.

Maybe try disconnecting your battery and touching the positive and negative cables together - this is called a static discharge. This will rest all your electronics hopefully clearing the codes and allowing the car adjust to the new sensors.

Good luck!

If your EGT sensors are failing every 18 months, replacing them is an expensive option.

not sure why you keep posting this. its completely incorrect, and does not help anything like that. There is no "learning" the new sensors they work, or they dont and you cannot clear the codes or active memory in the ecu by doing this.

so i interpreted your OP as saying you replaced the EGT sensor 18 months ago and the code was still showing up 17 months ago. is this correct?
if that is the case you may need a new ECM but i would check all the connections, make sure there isnt any wires that have been worn down to open. not on the new sensor obviously but going up to the ECM.
if all the wires and harnesses are good try a new ECM.
if that doesnt work check your alternator, i know it sounds stupid but i had a 1.8t that was throwing some codes cuz the alternator was going bad.
other than that i have no ideas.
