Well, the temps have risen enough to run the A/C, and come to discover that neither electric fan comes on.
Ironic after Nalley Audi just pulled the front end off to do the timimg and serpentine belts + water pump and tensioner(s).
BTW, they will not take responsibility for this and want $791.00 to replace the $250 module.
I can get a module from a variety of sources, both new and used, but where is this puppy located? Is it really that much labor to change it? I can get the front end off and swing the radiator/condensor out of the way myself, but is there more to it?
Any advice is much appreciated.

on an 01 a6, it's on the vertical frame next to the radiator on the driver's side. Drop the belly pan and look up. It's a rectanular box with a wiring harness attached. You can get it out without pulling the bumper, but installation is not easy. It is very hard to get the upper bolt started. Maybe a long gearwrench can reach, but you can't fit your hand up there. IIRC you can get to it by just pulling the bumper. I don't think you need to pull the front end to the service lock position.

Many thanks for the info, John. I will have a look at it tomorrow, The dealer said it had to be put in the service lock pos., so I want to show them otherwise.

They might be right on the service lock position vs just the bumper. Also, I'll bet the control module will be just fine with only the lower bolt securing it. Then, the next time you have the front end in service lock position, you can put in the other bolt.
Let us know what you discover. It's been 8 yrs, since I replaced the module...foggy memory!!

Sorry to bring this up from the past but is it safe to say that with both fans not working with A/C on an engine up to temp, that the control module is dead? And is it in the same spot on a 2002 A6 2.7?

That I don't know, however, it has become irrelevant as mine have started working. They sprang to life on the first day here that the temp was in the mid-90's, and I was in stop-and-go traffic after church. Now they come on every time. I occasionally get some less-than-cold air from the vents, so I am going to buy a 10oz R134-A refill canister with an integrated gague and see if the freon level is low. Perhaps the FCM is tied in somehow with the A/C pressure switch....IDK.
