Default Engine Squeaking noise - what is it?

Does anyone know what this squeaking screeching noise is? It's intermittent but annoying.

Thanks in advance

Default A small animal complaining?

All kidding aside, what area of the engine is the noise most present?

Sounds like a belt rubbing on something or a bearing on it's last legs. If it is something connected to the serp. belt then not a big deal, but should be fixed soon. If you localize it to the timing belt then a TB service is in order ASAP.

Default squeaking noise

First pass, I would say that its the serpentine belt and its squeaking because the water pump pulley is moving (failure is imminent) or the belt tensioner is failing.

In either event, get it looked at asap. If its the pump it could cost you your engine, if its the tensioner, you get stranded when it fails and the battery goes flat: no power steering either as a bonus....

Default Not sure where it's coming from

I'm having a hard time telling exactly where it's coming from.

I'm currently at 113K miles, and I did my timing belt and all the extras @ 77K, so I am surprised to think that it could be one of those components with only 36,000 miles on them....but I guess you never know.

Thanks

Simply remove the serpentine belt and see if it goes away. If yes, the most ikely the tensioner bearing. If not the Timing belt tensioner or idler pulley.

Default I have the same exact sound

Did you isolate the problem? My car just started making this sound last night. If you got it fixed, could you tell me how much the repair was?

Thanks,

I vote for this. Mine sounded very similar and would usually squeak when i first turned on the air conditioning system. I would turn off your AC/fan (this should turn off the electric radiator fan) and see if it still makes noise. This will obviously confirm or eliminate this as a problem. I have yet to replace mine (mostly because it's winter and the fan isn't needed) but i've found a few replacements for around $100 online.
