Engine stumble and TTB...

The other day I was merging into traffic and noticed an engine stumble at WOT right at about 4k and continuing onward. The problem happened at WOT in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear. It was so bad in 4th gear that at one point the "check engine" light flashed. I pulled over, switched the car out of the APR programming and back to stock and merged back into traffic. The stumble was still there, but very light. When I got home I decided it was probably the TTB, and as luck would have it I had a Samco boot in the garage. Fifteen minutes later I had the new boot on and I took it for a drive. No problem at all. Great, I solved the problem!
Here's the kicker... the stock boot does not have even the smallest tear that I can find. I know that the boot expands under boost, but I have examined the boot REAL close and can not find a tear. Oh well, I'm just glad the problem is fixed. Anyone have any ideas?
