I just read through this thread. OMG!!!!
Some of these comments border on idiotic.
I have a 2002 A6 4.2 as well as a 2008 S8. The S8 front end is much lower than the A6. The R8 is also much lower. IT IS NOT A DESIGN FLAW!!!!!
I’ve never understood why ANYONE in any car would pull so far forward as to have their front bumper extend over the curb or parking blocks. You are just asking for trouble. I’ve actually witnessed a ford rental car being back out and ripping the front bumper off. I mention it being a rental car because the driver and passengers got out, looked at it and said: “Good thing it’s a rental.”
All curbs are not the same height, all parking blocks are not the same height.
Be smart when you park and take responsibility for your actions.

I am an investigator in Southern California. I am working on a case involving Audi, and the A6 model in particular. Numerous A6 owners (including my father) have suffered damage to the front end of their cars when pulling OUT of parking spaces that have concrete curbs/ parking blocks.
The owners have reported that they did not hit or scrap the curbs/parking blocks on the way into the spot, but only on the way out. How is this possible? I would look forward to speaking with any A6 owners who have experienced this problem, or those who wish to avoid it. The repair costs have ranged from $800-1,200. Thanks.

One of my A6's are lowered so the risk is higher, and I have a couple of times got "hocked" in a parking lot. I do pay more attention now, and have not done this for years.
When caught by the "parking stone", you can normally feel a resistance when reversing, so stop. I do carry a few large flat pieces of plastic in my trunk. I have used those a couple of times to insert between the bumper and the "parking stone", which allows for the car to drive off the parking spot will less damage to the bumper.
