Default It has to be the tires then, but I never knew tires could be this loud and still sell...

The sticker on my 4.2 was $54,000 back in 2001. This has to be a fairly well insulated vehicle. I cannot imagine even the worst set of tires being so loud that I can carely hear my cell phone while driving.

Default If its from more than one wheel, its tires (likely)

Also WBs dont fail frequently.

Jack up the car one wheel at a time and spin it by hand. You may be able to hear it or feel it.

Default Re: It's very difficult to distinguish between the two noises...

i have an 05 s4 b6 w/31k miles. there is a murmur/rotational noise at 20-40 mph and at faster speeds annoying enough that the noise level competes to hear the radio. i suspect faster speeds, higher pitch. i tried two dealers and they say it is tires although when i hit different road types at different speeds, i do hear the same murmur and the tire noise change is very evident. the two dealers do not agree and insist it is tires although they will not guarantee if i change that the noise will go away. any advice out there? it's annoying and disappointing for a car of this cost. i'm going to try and test drive other s4's of similar age although not sure how much time i can spare...

Default Oh, imagine away. Try Yoko ES100s or the old Pirellis on wheels I just bought!

noisy, noisy.

The ES100s stick great, though. but I could nto live with them long, not on a "over the road" car.
Maybe on a track car.
