Default If you're talking Audi Assured,

just be aware that it isn't bumper-bumper, like the original warranty, and of course maintenance is no longer included.

Default I have extended warranties on both my A6s and would recommend you get one too...

if you plan on keeping the car long.
These things can get pricey if you have to pay for repairs after 50k miles. But if you do not plan on owning the car for many years/miles then it makes no sense to get the extended warranty. Depends on your plans.

We have decided against getting the extended warranty (2800.00) I have an Audi trained mechanic (8 years with Audi before going independent) that is very good and charges reasonable prices. I plan on doing everything on schedule (especially after reading all the posts on this board over the past few years).
To keep the 2001 A6 2.8Q with the extended warranty and all the upcoming maint. would cost us about 5k. (2800, plus 60k mile service with T-belt, transmission service, brakes, and new tires). The only thing that worries me about the car is the electrical problems. My wife drives the car and she is not a very aggressive driver so I don't worry too much about the other stuff.
The costs for the warranty does not seem to justify the expense. If it was a full continuation of the factory warranty to 7 years/100k miles then we would get it in a second. (plus the car is almost paid off!).

Default I also use an indy for service, but I have found myself well into the black

with extended warranties. I bought bumper to bumper warranties (not from AUDI) and on the 97 car it cost me $1,250 with $4,300 charged so far.

On the 4.2 it cost me $2,400 with $2,300 charged so far but the car has 63K miles and warranty goes to 125K miles.

To be honest you may come out ahead but for me it is not worth the risk. Especially given the leaks these cars tend to develop in the engine, head and transmission. To replace a $2 seal the labor can amount to $500 even at the indy.

For me extended warranties have worked out well.

Default I have an extended warranty on my MY '00. Cost me $2500 but gives me bumper-to-bumper coverage up

to 125K miles. After 6 months I've had the warranty cover $1,300 in costs. No question in my mind that this will pay out for me.

Default I remember one naysayer sugg setting aside $300 a month for potential repairs...

that sugg to me he recognized these are expensive cars to maintain. My ext warranty is costing the equivalent of $33 a month and has already paid out $1000 more than the orig premium.

Default extended warranties

I would be cautious about third party warranties, as I have heard of companies going belly-up while under contract with the owner. The audi assured is your best bet -- bumper to bumper with the exception of trim/glass, and they'll give you a loaner. Keep in mind, however, that the dealerships are a poor place to maintain your car anyway, IMHO.

congrats
