Default Extended Warranty

After hearing about some people's concerns involving Audi reliability I was thinking that an extended waranty might be a good idea.

My question is do you have to buy the warranty at the time of purchase? In other words, if I just bought a 4.2, can I go back now to the dealer and pick up the extended warranty?

And also, how much does an extended warranty cost? (For, say, a fully loaded A6 4.2)

I asked the same question at the time I picked up the car. The manager (not sales) said within 3 years. He also said information is going to be in the mail.
Note that forMecedes you have to decide within the first year.

I guess with this great warranty in the US (which include certain normal wear items ...e.g. brake pads and clutch). it make sense to let us decide within the warranty period.

My dealer also says that I can make my warranty extension decision at any time during the initial 3-year standard warranty period. However, I don't plan to wait that long to make up my mind. I do want to ensure that an extended warranty would cover things like the first cam/timing belt replacement at somewhere between 60,000 - 80,000 mi.

I don't have the details on the warranty extension yet. However, the dealer said that the two extension steps would cost something like $1500 to extend to 75,000 mi / 5 years and $2500 to extend to 100,000 mi /7 years (as I recall).

Just looked into this on a 98 A8. Was quoted $980 for an EXTRA 48 mo/48k mi. on top of Audi 3yr/50k mi. Does NOT include routine maintainance replacement items, such as timing belt. Also lots of exclusions

Default Warranties are available from a variety of sources ...

dealers, manufacturers (not usually a great deal), credit unions, and several companies that advertise in the Autoweek classifieds and on various Internet sites.

Shop based on price and reputation.

Don't forget coverage. Lots of warranties have all kinds of wiggle-room, like deductibles per part replaced rather than per visit to the shop. You definitely read the fine print. Sites like edmunds.com have lots of good discussion about extended warranties.

I work for Allstate Insurance. We just came out with a great 100,000 mile warranty with a great price and $25.00 deductible. SO far am selling quite a few. I know we have a better product than most dealers. Use any shop and rental car provided by Allstate.Email me for further info.

I just got an ad from my Allstate agent on this plan. It looks pretty good. Do you have to have the vehicle inspected to sign up for the plan?

The least expensive way to get an extended warr. is to get it when you buy the car. Example: A6 2.7t Eleven item warr. covering turbos, tranny and electrical as well as towing for 7 years or 100,000 miles w/250 deductable is around 1700US at cost.
