Default EZPass / Fastlane transponder mounted behind lower grille - results

As I mentioned in a previous post, my replacement Pilkington windshield blocked my toll transponder.

I swapped transponders and now have one of those license plate mounted ones. Of course I *didn't* mount it on my license plate...the damn thing looks just like a front bumper off a 1982 Volvo, and just about as big.

I ziptied it directly underneath the license plate, *behind* the lower grille. There's plenty of room there on my '02. I was careful to mount it below and not behind the plate. Even so, it's completely hidden.

The good news is that it works fine in this location. I went through a couple of tolls this morning and got excellent range.

I'd post pictures, but as I mentioned, it's *invisible*

I haven't found a GMC Trailbonker yet so I don't know whether my laser range has dropped.

Wonder if the V1 would work ziptied to the front grille

Default awesome...I was just at the Fast Lane service center ..and I know that..

the A6 (1998-1999) is listed as a car where the windshield mounted version is a problem (due to laminated glass etc).

see link to list of vehicles.

I think I'll mount mine behind the upper grille to see if that works.

Thanks!

Default Odd, mine works fine...

Although I did not mount it to the windshield. I keep it in the door bin, and when needed, I jsut hold it up while driving through the Fastlane booth.

...and I have the Pilkington replacement windshield.

As I mentioned in my original post, my installer (Wellesley Auto Glass) used a Pilkington windshield that has a solar film sandwiched in the glass to reduce heat buildup.

I've had other Pilkington windshields before and did not have a problem.

With this one, it's a no go for the transponder. We'll see if the car stays cooler in the summer. I'm *sure* that this is not just marketing fluff

that's interesting...I've had no issues with mine (though I'm MY '00).
