Default fan clutch install needs removing front end??!!

audi a6 98 2.8l. I have an overheating problem; spilled coolant as I was parking; changed fan clutch once but problem not solved; the dealer claims the fan clutch still doesn't work and wants to charge 550$ to install a new one, claiming they have to remove the whole front to get to it !!! Is that true??? I know to get to the TB you have to, but fan clutch is just so accessible, and the mechanic who did it first time didn't remove the front end. Who's right???

dealer is just being a dealer... i'm sure you can remove it by reaching, one nut, 3 hex bolts

Default You don't have to remove the whole front end. Service position should be far enough.

$550 sounds reasonable from a dealer.

Default No you can't. You can unbolt it, but it won't come out of it's nest in the radiator support...

... unless you move the support forward.
