Default FCP Groton cv joints

just got my cv joint in, wanted to ask some Qs before putting them on. they look good but there seems to be what looks like burns, cant tell if its from the machining process as there is heat discoloration normally associated with welding. i also noticed some flakes of the burned metal and particles on the *****, is this normal machining related slagg? should i dip them in a parts bath or blow out all contaminates before installing and greasing them?

also should the ball joints not move at all, it seems pretty stiff in the joint, no movement. dont want to break anything.

should i use the grease that they shipped with the units or should i get better grease? i noticed one of the caps was slightly off and a little bit squirted out. dont know if the grease is considered contaminated once the caps came off.

other then the questions im pretty impressed with the quality of the parts and the cv boot as well. i am a little let down that they didnt ship an axle bolt but i may have not read what was included correctly. all in all i dont think i can complain as i am replacing the front two outer cv joints for 107 dollars and purchased the lifetime warranty for only $10. we shall see......

"Burn" marks are normal temper marks. Not sure about the chips. Graphite grease is the way to go and probably what they shipped.

The chips were like small metal flakes, could have been from anything. I'm surprised at the tempering, makes certain parts of the metal look almost used!

I'll use the grease included, just wanted to make sure it can't spoil because of moisture contamination.... Been working with ac systems too long this summer worrying about pag oil!

also, anyone have the part number for the c-clips and spacers needed for the cv joint? the kit apparently didnt come with either the axle bolt or the c-clip and spacers, got the axle bolts today at audi (33 dollars) and now am facing buying a whole cv joint kit for 20dollars (40 total) unless i can find the part number to buy the c-clip and spacer separately

not crazy about the FCP groton kit at this point, but have high hopes for the ahrdware
