Default Finally, I got the CORRECT euro blindspot mirror!!!

After a few weeks of agonizing over a wire transfer to Germany, the box arrived the other day with the heated/auto-dimming/Euro-blindspot mirror!!! For those who missed my last attempt at this, I bought a pair of mirrors only to find out they only fit the 99.5 A8. Luckily, PaulW from the A8 forum found a buyer for me, and I was able to recover the cost of acquiring the wrong set.

Found this on eBay Germany ("audi spiegel original"). Here is a shot of the two mirrors, the stock mirror is on the left, Euro-blindspot mirror is on the right...

Before...

After...

I tried to keep the same camera angle (very tough to do without a tripod or camera mount). Note how much more of the parking garage you can see in the background, the whole green Camry, as well as the rear corner of the maroon sedan parked next to me. I also noticed that the entire mirror is slightly convex, similar to the passenger side mirror, in addition to the outer edge. Notice how much further away the Chevy Malibu and Honda Odyssey appear in the Euro mirror??? Odd that there is no written warning "objects may be closer than they appear." like on the the passenger side.

On the way home, there was a BIG difference on the highway. I can also understand how others kept telling me that it takes a bit of getting used to.

Part number is 8D0-857-535-H

Default No warnings on the mirrors, because.......

...Europeans generally take responsibility for their own actions and don't sue like Americans. The Euro pax side mirror doesn't have any warnings either. Anyway 'Objekte sind vielleicht naeher als Sie erwarten' probably wouldn't fit.......

Looks good. I'll have to get one too.....

Default What is p-shopped? The mirror pic? NO! It is a real mirror...

Have you not seen one of these before? They are a bit strange. I feel a bit cross eyed looking at it, but hopefully I will get used to it soon.

Retail price is over $380 on vagparts.com (inclusive of the 17.5% VAT), but I got mine for less than half that including shipping and the international wire transfer fee.

A7...you are too funny. Maybe I should call it an A6 that likes to wear its siblings' jewelry.

<a href="https://sslrelay.com/s74326199.oneandoneshop.co.uk/sess/utn;jsessionid=1542a101fc38ffe/shopdata/0010_Audi/0130_Allroad/0010_Exterior/0060_Mirrors/product_details.shopscript?article=0030_Allroad%2B auto%2Bdim%2BLH%2Bblindspot%2Bmirror%

Default I started the "other" mod, but decided not to rush it as daylight was running out...

of course, you know I will post more about that when I am done. Trying to be a bit more thorough on this one.
