First time going with winter tires. Do I need new rims?

This is probably a stupid question, but do you need dedicated rims for winter and summer tires respectively? I noticed a lot of people had that and I was wondering if it was for convenience or safety.
This is my first venture into winter tires since I'm commuting daily now in a snowy region. I have the stock 16" wineglass rims that came with my car with Conti ExtremeContact all seasons on right now.

But more convenience and cost. It's expensive to have tires mounted and balanced; an extra set of wheels quickly pays for itself. It's also not good for tires to be mounted and re-mounted.
I'm selling a set of 16 steel wheels if you are close to CT.

is cheaper than new rims on a car I'm gonna replace with a C6 or B7 after this winter.
Most likely won't afford to replace before winter which would have been much easier...

are less likely to get damaged by all the potholes that come out every winter.
I have the stock wineglass wheels for my dedicated snow wheels, with Micheline Artic Alpine studless snow tires. Great traction in the snow, not too terrible on dry pavement. I can mount them up in less than 30 minutes in my garage with my air tools (majority of my time is spent jacking the car... got to get a lift in my garage!). So I mount up for snow storms and winter road trips, then may or may not put my other wheels back on depending on the weather, but I generally wait for the first snowstorm of the season before I put them on...
The stock wineglass wheels are really strong, but a total PITA to clean.
