Isdera Imperator 108i from the mid-80s.

Not the fastest thing on the planet, even at that time, it did 0-60 in about 6 seconds, 0-100 in 10 seconds, and had a top speed of 176mph.
Mercedes wankle sports car prototype originally known as the C111 and CW 311 (http://www.pistonheads.com/doc.asp?c=103&i=6730), Porsche engineer Eberhard Schulz took over the design in 1983 when Mercedes decided to not pursue the project further. He installed convential hotted up Mercedes V8s, to suit customer's personal specifications, including special AMG built units. Approx 30 were built.
The bump in the roof is actually a periscope that acts as an additional rear view mirror. Clever.
Isdera also offered an open top sports car called the Isdera Spyder 036i, powered by (among other choices) the Audi 5 cylinder, and presently offers the wild looking creation called the Commendator 112i.

Cool car. Apparently not fully developed according to the folks at Dinan in Mtn View.
They had/have one there for pretty much total restoration and sorting.
The Z1 was kind of funky:
