Default Follow-up Question to Rear Brake issue

First off thanks to the responses regarding the tool needed to compress the rear cal. piston. Here's the real issue. Inner pad (left side) completely worn down to the metal. Outer pad still @ 80%(same on other side- r rear). Dealer tells me that the inner pad whas worn quicker than the rest but I'm out if the 12k mi/12mo. warranty (at time of install to CPO the car)I need to buy new pads and rotor. My claim is that the piston is malfunctioning and/or the e-brake is also a contributor. With wheel off ground there is still a considerable amount of drag (no braking). Car is still under CPO and I belive there is more to it. Has there been other with this issue? What was outcome?

Default This is a classic brake problem that any decent mechanic knows how to diagnose.

You have a rear caliper which is designed to be floating. Pressure is applied initially to the inner pad by the piston of the caliper. The caliper is supposed to freely slide so that a little under 50% of the brake pressure is transferred to the outer brake pad.

Since your outer brake pad is hardly worn, the sliding mechanism of the caliper is not properly working. It either needs to be lubricated or is bent, but for some reason, the caliper is not properly floating. Your caliper is defective, and should be fixed. Putting on new pads and a rotor won't solve the problem.

I would complain to to the dealer that they need to fix your caliper.

You need a new caliper carrier, which floats on the caliper to balance the pressure on the pads.

new would be ideal, but it could simply be frozen and need cleaning/lubing.
