Default Found a killer setup, will 19x9.5 fit all around on a 4.2?

I want to take a staggered setup and put the rear 19x9.5 in the front as well. Will that work? However, my car currently sits on 18s on 255/35/18 and the wheels are a 18x8.0 so the tires look very beefy which I dont want. My suspension is currently 1.5" lowered and you can roughly fit about 1-2 fingers between the wheel gap, however what im worried about is if I get 19" wheels, will it actually lift my car and will I need to lower my car even more? These wheels im looking for are 19x9.5, ET35(plus im gonna put the 10mm spacers) with a 3.5" lip

You're probably better off directing wheel/tire questions to the wheel/tire forum.

IIRC I've seen an rs6 with 20x10's all around, and several 19 x10"s I think you should be fine

Default You will need at least 265s wide if not 275s with those 9.5" otherwise

you will get accelerated wear on the inside edge of your front tires as the 255 tires will be too stretched out for those wheels. I would go with at least 275/30/19 with a 9.5" wheel. Offset and fender rub are going to be your challenges. I am putting 19x8.5" on my car in about a month. I'll post pictures when done.

Default i like that stretched look tho, also, if I get 19s with the same 255/35/19

will it actually lift my car or fill in the wheel gap better? Im currently 1.5" dropped and on 255/35/18, if I get 19" wheels and get a 255/35/19 on the same 1.5" dropped, will it actually make my car lifted which means i gotta drop some more if i go with 19s? anything under a 255 tire is too small for the 4.2 fender flares IMO.

Default Do you realize that the diameter of the tire you want about is 1.5" greater than what you've got?

Google search for "tire calculator" and pick the first link. You'll get a calculator that lets you compare diameters of before/afters.

The calcualtor assumes that you're installing things per spec though, not stretching the tire like you want to do.

To each his own, I don't like the looks of the stretched tires and I certainly don't like the hazard of having the sidewalls exposed to vertical punctures like that.

Default true2theQ what sized tires will you run on the 8.5"s? I had 19x8's and...

..they had excessive front inner shoulder wear, and I've had alignments done already in the past. I ran 235/35/19. Also I ended up with some dents in the front left rim. Maybe load rating is too low for the fronts like that? BTW i have a narrow body a6 (2.8l)

Default After lots of research seems like many people are running 235's on the 4.2

Why are people running such a narrow tire to such a big wide sedan with huge fender flares. Seems like 235 is pretty popular, im at 255 which i want to stay at but with my 8" wide tire, it looks so beefy and the tire sticks out more than the rim. Now, if I go 8.5, it still wont fill it out, hes a 235 tire on a 8.5 and it looks perfect, the way I want it. For me to go with an A4 tire is stupid, I havea bigger wide car and huge fender flares that all A4, S4...etc owners would love to have, so I will take an advantage of it. However, the only think I now have a problem with is if I get 19's will the car look lifted??

Default If your alignment was on and the tie rods and control arms are in good

condition you probably needed a 245 width. My personal experience is that wider is better for tire wear. Go the extra 10mm when you can. I run 255/35/18 on my 8.5" wheels and I have no problems with inner wear and my car is lowered 1.5" and the alignment is always kept perfect. In the past year I have replaced one tie rod and all 4 upper control arms due to wear. All of these parts were changed after my car had 50k miles. When you lower a car there is inherently more wear on the rubber bushings on the control arms. Look in my picture poster to see all the wheels on my car with 255/35/18 on all. If you look you will see the split spoke Mille Miglia wheels I had as winter wheels until I bent 2 of them a month ago and I subsequently replaced them with the 18x8.5" MB replica wheels in my sig pic. The Mille Miglia wheels were 9" wide and I had inner tire wear with 255s so I was actually glad to get rid of them for a 8.5" wheel. I will post a picture later of that wear. Also you will see my old 1995 S6 in my pic poster. At one point I had 18x8.5" wheels with 235s and I got the same inner wear on my fronts as the 255s with a 9" wheel and always had perfect alignment. You think I would have learned my lesson, well now I have. ALWAYS make sure you have sufficiently wide tires on your wheels or you will get inner tire wear with a stretched out tire. Also it will compromise the side wall integrity. Tires are way too expensive to screw around with a "look" IMO also the handling and ride issues with a tire that is too narrow for a wheel.
