Re: Nail polish remover will REMOVE clearcoat and paint if rubbed or
Yeap, it will. Thats why you gotta lightly rub it and wash away really well right after. Gotta be careful but it does an awesome job!

Welcome to the club, my wife Avant looks really bad after 2 years, first scratch on 1st day of .....
having the car. I gave up being mad! The worst thing was when some kid friend got out of the car bumping the Audi door into my car door in the garage!
Well, the fun of 3 kids and a stressed Mom, thats life!

They always DENY it at first, it's instinct, BUT....
...they always remember it after some "coaxing".
Few years back I put new wheels on the "old" Audi. The wife took some letters to mail and returned a few minutes later. I decided to wash the car......the next thing she knew I was accusing her of "curb checking".
She completely denied and asked how I would know. I simply brought her outside and showed her the YELLOW paint that was crushed into the side of the wheel. Once cornered she admitted it.
I thought it was funny how she denied it until trapped. Now she just vaguely remebers right away...I think she's afraid she left some evidence.
P.S. I finally got all the paint out about two years later....and the wheels look like hell :-)

That's an easy one . . . (btw 3M woulda saved ya)
clean it/buff it to find out where paint exists still and where its missing. Then get the touch up paint from the dealer and some clear coat too. Add touch up primer first and then simply paint over it in multiple coats until it builds up reasonably (about two coats a day for a week).
Then finish with the clear coat. It will be virtually invisible until you get on the ground and look up close.
The 3M kit normally does not cover that area but I added a strip myself when I had the A6. Did an almost identical scrape and simply peeled the damaged 3M off. There were some tiny light scratches which I hand polished out. Added a new 3M strip (from griots) and it was done. Took 30 minutes total and cost about $6.00 for materials.
You are so right about getting angry at such things. Its pointless stress and aggravation. In addition is solves nothing. It might be an "annoying" event but that is less stressful than an "angering" event.

Perhaps the wifeie got too close up on a painted parking block?
...but not close enough to pull the bumper off. Other scenario is that when the suspension compressed, it was at an intersection and she picked up some paint from the street (stop line, divider, anywhere white paint is on the streets). If thats the case, warm rag, small circles little Simple Green if need be and patients should remove the white stuff. My Carbon Fiber bikes get paint from the walls every so often and with the high gloss clear coat over black, Simple Green works well at removing the marks without harming the clear coat finish. Whoever recommended nail polish remover, WTF? Plus, (you probably already know this) Simple Green is bio degradable and non toxic though should be diluted and has a dozen different applications.
