Default The Four Rings of the Niebelungen

Has anyone else noted that the Germans seem to be obsessed with Rings?

Richard Wagner wrote the opera Die Ring der Niebelungen, Audi has the four rings on its grill, etc etc. The only other unexplained Ring is Tolkien's Lord of the Rings (but that had only one ring, so why was it called Lord of the Rings (plural)? And he was English! Oh well!!!!

Anyway, something to ponder on the Audi BBS this Friday!!!!!!

Default Well, you obviously didn't read the book! ...

There were bunches of rings and the "one ring" was master of them all:

Three Rings for the elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne.

(Ah the joys of (past) youth.)

BUT, you're right, Tolkien was English and so this is all moot really...

How many more, and were they ever mentioned in the movie? I thought that Frodo was trying to get just that one Ring to Mordor?

In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
