great deal in my opinion for a car considered in same class with the more elite group even though it usually finishes last. Its suspension set up and refinement feel less aggressive than S6 but the grip is at least as high if not higher. The S type R feels lighter on its feet as well and the car feels smaller(I think it is, especially the interior so it feels more intimate.)

still breaking in the car so I wouldn't dare the go past 4000rpm during my brief time behind the wheel. I doubt one would notice it when driving; but like you said it made no sense since the transmission will shift before it hits its highest horsepower rating. So in another word, the owner will never experience all of the 390 hp it claims to have????
But to be fair, the car will whip anything less of M5, RS6, and E55. S6 feels slow in comparison and the S type feels more relaxed and supple. I think for that price, nothing can touch it. I was just so suprised on how close the price is between a 4.2 A6 and the S type R.

base MSRP is $67k for the A8...but soon after it comes out, it will sell for less...plus, some options brings it back to $67-70k + tax.

times by 0.5 sec and with cheapo suspension mods and great tires will beat its 0.82 on the skid pad by > .1. Only posted this since their appears to be a cost/performance theme in your original post. The tranny and suspension ruin the package, but the straight line acceleration may be all someone needs. Non S6 stock 4.2 numbers are pretty respectable.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/249571.phtml</a

For me the Jag is way to fussy in the styling department. Every road test I have read that compares the "S" type to Audi, BMW, Merc etc. the Jag is never near or at the top. Every negotiation is different but it seems that the rear price difference between an A6 4.2 and the S type R is close to $10k and you could have a S6 Avant and some change for that. So that leaves the biggest difference of all QUATTRO.
