Default Friends 4.2 ran out of gas....

...He "forgot".

LOL

What happens when these cars run out of gas? Any special considerations. He just called and I told him to call Audi road side assistance since he's an hour or so away from me.

Seems like every time I have something wrong with my car, he calls and has something wrong with his. Oh well just thought I'd ask.

Default Not much you can do. Just be warned that

when you run a car dry, the injector needles take a beating as they aren't cushioned by fuel flow as they close, the fuel pump in the tanks doesn't have cooling fluid around it. I'm sure there are a few more things I'll remember later, but basically it isn't the end of the world, but it's not a good idea to make a habit of it.

This sounds suspicously like "my friend has a drinking problem" or "my friend is gay". Hehehe

Default Ditto on the lack of injector and pump lubrication. And the old warnings about

picking up sediment from the bottom of the tank. Some people discount this one, but the pump working "dry" is definitely true.

When the low gas warning light goes off (how did he forget or ignore that??), a code gets thrown. Obviously a CEL doesn't -- just a code. It'll clear itself after X(?) amount of successful starts without the low gas warning, though.

Too late to worry about now. Fill it and go.

Default Just happened to me the other day, not in the 2.7T. I was in the old Mustang, stopped a block away

from the house! I hate it when that happens, gotta get that gas gauge fixed!
