Fuel Leak from Fuel Level check side
So, about a month ago I had a strong fuel smell after filling up and bringing the car home. I looked around and couldn't find anything. I decided to see if it would happen again, it happened again but I couldn't locate any leaks etc. So yesterday I am getting the winter tires put on the car (Perilli 210's which seam great so far) and when the car is up on the lift it is dripping fuel right onto the autoshop floor. They alerted me to the problem but it was just a National Tire and Battery so I told them I would take it home and to my usual mechanic. I got home and pulled the back seat bench out to see if I could see anything from the top of the tank. The fuel pump side was bone dry with no smell what-so-ever. The drivers side which is the fuel level sender unit was soaked in gas. I could even see it pooling up in the plastic 5" cap that holds the sender.
I have an apointment tomorrow and I really think it is the seal that goes around the sending unit and when the gas tank is under pressure it is not holding anymore and is letting vapor/gas leak out when the fuel level is relatively high. Any thoughts?
