Hi guys, I've had my 1998 A6 for a week now and am very pleased. I was reading the thread last week about the trunk not popping up when opened with the remote and thought I'd play with it this weekend.
To my surprise I found out (the hard way) that my trunk doesn't lock when I remotely lock the car! After I locked the car with the remote, I went to the back and opened the trunk but set off the alarm. I finally figured out that I could manually lock it with the key but this is kind of a pain.
Is there something wrong with mine or is it just an Audi quirk?

If the key slot was vertical, the trunk would lock and unlock with the car's central locking system. If the key slot was turned to the horizontal position, the trunk was always unlocked; you could just pop it open regardless of the central locking system.
See if that works for you.

was pertaining to some of the newer A6's, I believe. Hopefully someone will chip in with an answer, but your trunk probably doesn't have the auto latching feature. It's either open or shut, right?

I'll have to play with it some more and see how different positions work with the remote...
Thanks for the info tho!

On an A6 there is a way to keep the trunk from unlocking with the rest of the car, but there isn't supposed to be a way to keep it from locking.
I think it is busted. If you can't get it to work, see your dealer.
