You have to love Virginia's state troopers...

So I'm driving down a 3 laner 45mph zone at about 50mph. I see the right and center lanes totally open and a line of about 10 cars going exactly 45mph on the far left.

I get in the center lane and quickly realize that there is a state trooper going 45 on the left lane and the other 10 cars are like little ducks following the mother...

I slow down to about 47mph. I continue to cruise at 47mph and SLOWLY, but VERY SLOWLY, overtake the trooper in the center lane. Not more than 2mph faster than him and the line...

What does he do?

He turns on his PA and blast out:
"THE SPEED LIMIT IT FORTY FIVE! THAT'S FOUR! FIVE!"

I wave to him and slow the 2MPH and continue to
drive neck and neck with him at 45MPH. Is this guy for real? Why are my taxes paying his salary? Shouldn't he be doing something more useful with his time? Unreal...

Spent ~10mos. in VaBeach.... what a pit! The cops are totally insane, too, esp. if you have military base stickers on your car (or a short hair cut!)

they caught me going 10 over in a construction zone near Blacksburg, VA in my Grandmothers Oldsmobile 88. I rounded the corner and the speed limit drops 10MPH and just opposite the construction zone sign is parked one of VA's finest. I knew I wasn't going to get out of the ticket, so I told him he should be doing something more useful with his time than setting up speed traps in construction zones! He just smiled and gave me the ticket.

was when he blithely sailed past a police officer, doing well in excesss of the speed limit on the city street. Got a talking to, but no ticket. Whew! That would have messed up the sale ;-)

I was driving up I-77 in WV (posted speed 70). I was driving my beater ('99 Concorde w/155k mi) instead of the Audi. Ussually, I cruise this portion of interstate at 75-80 mph. I had the cruise set at 75 mph and saw a trooper pulling on from the left edge of the road so I slowed to 70-72mph.

I had the cruise set and just motored along. He stayed in the left lane for a mile or so and began to slow. He was going about 68 mph in the left lane and I slowly began gaining ground on him. I finally passed him on the right (legal in WV) and he flashed his lights. I checked my speed and kept going. He then PULLED ME OVER!!! He jumped out of the Durango and RAN to my window. He began yelling at me about the speed limit being 70mph and to NEVER pass a marked car.

He told me I was going 74mph, but there is NO WAY. I asked to see the radar display, but he declined. He took my info, but did not go back to the car to do a check. I was told about 6 times to never pass a marked car. He appeared to be young. Maybe he was new and had something to prove.

Best part of the whole story is that, when we got married, my wife was an assistant prosecuting attorney in this county. When I called her, she was PISSED. She was ready to call her old boss and ask him to have a talk w/ the cop's sargeant. By the time I got home (70 more miles), I had cooled off and decided to let it go.

I just can't believe that someone else has had a similar experience!! TOTAL BS!
