I'm swapping OnStar for Bluetooth and am about to start dissembling the wiring harness. I'd like to cut power, but not disconnect the battery and then have to reset everything.
Fuse 8 is labeled as "Car Telephone". Is that used for OnStar?
I've STFA and read BostonDriver's tech article (although my setup is different as I don't have NAV)
I've got a 2004 2.7T 6speed with Symphony II
TIA

I figure I've already moved half the pins. I'm only doing one at a time to avoid a short.
Would you still disconnect the battery?
The biggest bitch of this job has been fighting the carpeting. I can't yank it out from the left side of the footwell. It already ripped a bit (which P'd me off), so I'm just living with it.

Is it OK to take one of the unused pins left in the OnStar housing and splice it in????

...the repair wire will come with two ends, you can cut the wire and splice into the one that you broke. NSX_JR did not post a separate part number for the pin only.

... The writeup below does have you leave the unused wires in the old 42-pin connector, which protects the unused wires. Cutting a wire and using the pin will leave a wire exposed. I would recommend that you cap off (electrical tape) the exposed wire just in case.

BT replacing OnStar

Capacitors can store juice for quite some time, even if the battery is unhooked, so it's just an added level of safety, but there's still a chance of shorting stuff out (though most capacitors in our cars are small enough to not cause damage, but the battery definitely can)
