Default Fvck. I think I just figured out what was causing my CEL : ( (long)

Pulled into a Wendy's parking lot after a long drive, and I noticed a really weird sound (it sounded like I was dragging some tin cans under the car.) I turned my music down a bit, and realized just how loud it was Pulled into a spot, and took a look under the car. I wasn't dragging any debris, etc, so I got back in. Pushed down on the accelerator, and the noise was there. It's clearly coming from the center of the car. I have a feeling that I blew out one (or both) of my cats, which might explain why my CEL has been on for quite some time. My guess seemed to be supported by a lack of power when I started moving again. Not night and day different, but still very apparent. Any thoughts? And if it is my cats, do you guys think it would be possible to have a shop cut them out for me? Or would they avoid that for legal reasons? At this point I don't have the money to buy new cats, so straight pipes + CEL eliminators might be my only option. And yes, I would appreciate serious responses. Thanks

Default If you leave the car on jackstands outside, someone will come remove them for you;)

I had to hollow mine myself, most exhaust shops will not touch it.

Default Fvck......

Sorry to hear that.
Check the pipes first for any possible leaks.
Good luck.

Default Srsly, what codes got pulled?

If you think your cat mat'l is loosened up and rattling around, crawl under with a rubber mallet (or fist) and wrap on the different sections of the exhaust to locate/confirm.
Oh, and check/post the codes!

Default I bought a set of APR high flow cats from someone using test pipes then sold my old stock

cats on ebay as scrap - I made enough money to pay for the install. Granted, this is on a 2.5in exhaust setup and a 2.7t; I can't remember what diameter you are looking at running. I use VAST celiminators and no CELs for the past 8 mos (piggie pipes too)

If you go that route, check on the B5 S4 board - there is probably someone looking to make a couple of bucks on parts they're not using.

HTH,
Sean

Default Long shot, but all emissions equipment is covered to 80k miles under waranty

I had the cat's replaced on my wife's old B6 at 78k because it was throwing a CEL that indicated the cats were going bad. No questions and no cost.

I'm not sure if Audi would give you any trouble because you have modified the exhaust, but any mods after the cats would have no impact on the cats themselves. Worth a shot if you're still under 80k miles.

Quick Reply: Fvck. I think I just figured out what was causing my CEL : ( (long)
