Sheet metal screw into cat to stabilize the core. Until you can afford new cats.

Default Hmm.. What if I cut them myself, then had a shop weld in the pipes?

They can't be held liable for something I did before I brought my car in.

Default The cats were flanged in my case, so I had the shop put flanges on my dp's -

makes it easy to separate in the future.

Default My car has a completely different setup. Downpipe, flex joint, and cat are all one piece : (

New components will have to be welded in.

Default Yes, they are still liable. They won't weld in test pipes even if you remove the cat

If they do anything to circumvent or disable emissions equipment they could get in big trouble. Your best bet is to first determine if you have loose material in the cats. If you do remove them and break out the core. This will probably cause a CEL, but it will prevent power loss and heat build up due to a clogged cat. This should only be a temp fix until you can replace the cats.

Default I have no problem gutting them and using CEL eliminators. However, who would be

willing to weld them back together after I've gutted them? That would be just like putting in a set of straight pipes for me..

You can use a long pipe or pole to knock the material out of the cats w/o cutting them open
