FYI, the all-season tire choice may be shifting to the SP Sport A2, from the SP Sport 5000...
I put them on my A6 in late September, and they have been by far the best tires I've had. On dry road they have nice grip, solid cornering and good steering response... and in the wet and snow, the traction is simply awesome compared to the three other all-seasons I've tried.
Additionally, they beat out the SP Sport 5000 Asymetrical, SP SPort 8000 and SP Sport 9000, in all categories on the TireRack survey. In 16" sizes, they're about $15-$30 cheaper per tire, to boot.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/dunlop/du_sp_a2.jsp

The only explanation I have is Sport A2 is "Hight Performance" and 5000 is "Ultra Hight Performance". They might be judged by tirerack.com inside of their groups.
