Default Does that guy get paid by the word?

How hard is turbo lag to explain? One test drive in a Saab is all it takes!

Default Pretty **** poor article IMO...there are really 3 things perceived as lag...

...the first situation is where you are not even at an RPM where the turbo is spooled yet -- say at 2000rpm you floor it, but your car has a big turbo that doesn't start to spool until 3500rpm so you have to wait an eternity for RPMs to rise to get any boost.

The second situation is where you are at an RPM where the turbo isn't boosting, but is capable of being spooled; it just takes a second to make full boost. This is the scenario presented in his article.

And the third situation is where the engine is accelerating so fast that the turbo boost never maximizes itself before it is time to shift, such as in 1st gear.
