Gas leak - top of tank. Do I have to pull the entire tank??
2000 2.7T. Last week I found my car leaking gasoline, driver side, on the ground. It happened immediately after a fillup, so I thought I overfilled. Not so.
The gas leak continued (steady leak when engine was off, no leak when engine on) until around 2/3 of a tank and stopped. I checked the fuel pump / sender under the rear seats - all is dry. The repair shop says they have to remove the entire gas tank, at a cost of $1300, to find the problem, which they hypothesized is some type of cracked vent hose on the top of the tank.
What do you think of this advice?? Seams like there should be a better way....

Pull the back seats out and see if there are any access holes there...
the tank is very tight to the body.. there is no way to fix anything on it without dropping it at least a little.
