Get your tip filter service!
Brought the 2.7T into a local wrench to do the Tip filter and flush. I was having MAJOR issues with the shifting and non-engagement when cold or after hard stops. Say I was hard on the brakes and went right to the accelerator, the motor would rev like I had the the (non-existant) clutch in. When it was cold in the morning it would have to warm up first or the tip would slip for 20-sec or so. Well now it's gone! Smooth as silk. Lifetime fluid my ***. Hope no major life was taken from the tranny in the meantime. FWIW I had the fluid level "topped-off" a week ago with no change. $150 and I am pleased.

That's the cost for the fluid and filter!
Glad it's so much smoother...you probably saved yourself $9K in a new tranny down the road (the dealer sure knows that price).
Wendy is where you can get the parts, the filter is something like $30, and now she has OEM fluid for $12/quart....
If you used 7 quarts, that's $84, plus another $30 for the filter...plus drop the pan, change it out, etc.....$150 is like doing it for free!
If you bought the filter at the dealer, it's about $70, plus $22/quart for fluid!
Did they change the filter? If not, consider doing it again next spring, because you can't change all the fluid out, let it mix around and do it one more time with the filter. Very important to get that done.
If you want to get a filter/fluid for your car, contact Wendy Hager by email and she can sell it to you. Tell her your year car and make.

No, just to check fluid temperature
The fluid level is controlled by when it flow out of the stand pipe with the engine running. If you don't have VAG-COM, then just start the car from ambient temperature and after about 10-15 minutes it will be in the right range.

hey paul...is it true
that if you wait too long (like my car) that flushing the tranny is more harm than good. I heard that things get "loosened up" if it has gone a long time without change of fluid.

Re: hey paul...is it true
Let's see, if I told you that I missed my engine oil change at the required 10K interval....and now had 20K miles on the oil.....then I told you that a mechanic told me that I shouldn't change the oil because the engine loosened up....and I told you I was going to go another 20K miles without changing the oil....what would you call me?
CRAZY!
If you get the fluid and filter changed on your tranny, you'll be surprised how much smoother it shifts and feels. That's a wives tale that has no technical backing to it. Think about it.
That fluid has how many years of service on it? It is a "sealed" system, but I can tell you that it has a vent on it and that there are wear particles in that fluid from all the gears in your tranny. Remember, it's NEVER been changed before....do it and you'll find a much smoother transmission that might never have to be rebuilt.
