GIAC Tip Chip for '99

The Giac Tip chip for the 2000 A6 helped the tranny some, because of the quicker shifts. Thus reducing some heat build up. But if I remember right, later version of the car had better shifting, so the difference wasnt that great. But for the 2000 it was night and day.
You are correct The tranny was rated for ~308lbs, dont remember from that long ago, getting old. So lets say some engr fluff It might take 330lbs. Who knows. Depends on the tranny in each car. Some last being chipped some break early. Chipping and more power will shorten life no matter what.
Thats why I have a spare tranny in the garage. Just never got motivated to have it built up. It actually is fine with 30K on it.

I liked this... I am calling them now to see if the TC strength has been increased. When I do a K04, and the engine is pulled, I might pay extra to drop this rebuild in...
Has there been anyone looking into the tranny upgrade as a whole... Like a swap for 5HP24 or 5HP30. Any housing adapters or ECU <--> TCU issues? Could not find much via search other than A8 guys doing it.

I've been running an L10 TC for 4-5 years. That said, what's frustrated me in the past when talking to every TC vendor is that none of them will say specifically what they do to a TC and none were willing to show pictures before and after to demonstrate that they actually did the work.
VAST seems to be the exception. They will explain specifically what they do. They've also developed their own TCU software that seems to negate the need for any other tranny work for Stg 3 and lower applications. The VAST stuff is fairly new so who knows how it will perform over time? They've got a damn good rep and I'd trust them more than anyone else.
As mentioned, I'm running an L10 TC and GIAC TCU software. I'm very seriously considering replacing both with the VAST stuff.
Finally, I'd suggest that the low cost solution rarely turns out to be low cost in the long run.
Also try these people: http://www.importperformancetrans.com/index.shtml
HOPE this helps. Also click on the Stoney Link below, lots of stuff for the A6 including Transmission. http://sonolithics.com/files/a6_links.html

Is this a response to me a general comment? Please try to post in the correct place within the thread.
Generally, that is true for stock to stock comparison; the 2.8 has less moving parts and no boost, so sure, it's probably more reliable. But you are saying that a supercharged 2.8 is more reliable than a stock 2.7, that's just silly. An aftermarket charger system is a pretty drastic mod. There is a negative impact on reliability.

keep your expectations very, very low and you'll probably be happy. I would not waste a dime hot-rodding a 2.8 (motor). Suspension, yes. Want more power, get a 2.7 - Audi built the thing like a brick $h1thouse,and for the money delta, you get sooooo much car.
Chips got their (good) name in turbo cars where a simple boost change can generate bags of power.
In your car, nearly zero.

mayeb i'm missing an inside joke here, but....
not possible.
More parts. More stress. More trouble.
That said, i believe, and stated twice today, here, that the 2.7 is a tremendously well built motor.
But it has turbos, waste gates, plumbing, etc to fail. Simple statistics say it will have more problems.
adn THAT said, maintenance and condition matter more than which motor you choose.
but the worst of all worlds would be to add FI to a 2.8 so you have all the complexity of FI and noen of the marvelous over-building of the 2.7
