Hello,
Can somebody who has installed a tip chip on a 4.2 explain to me how the car will behaive differently? Any difference in Acceleration times and does it feel faster? Are the shifts abrupt?
thanks

Default Basically what the tip chip does is increase the speed with which the shift happens..

it also gets the torque converter to lock up much faster and earlier, giving the car a more direct transmission feel.

Tip chip vs. Tip mod: Don't they do the same?

Default THey do not do the same thing.

in fact, on my A6, the 'tip mod' did absolutely nothing.

Default Any side effects?

I've been hesitant to consider the Tip Chip. I know there are issues with the amount of torque that that tranny can handle, does the Tip Chip expose it to more wear & tear?

Also, is GIAC the only company that makes a Tip Chip?

Default No. Only the Tip chip will speed up the shifts.

But the Tip chip will not make the the car hold 1st gear till redline like the software re coding.

Default Not as of yet, I have had mine for about 14K miles, I have not heard of any

tranny failures due to the tip chip. GIAC is the only one, for now. Good Luck!

Default BZZZT! My GIAC Tip chip lets me hold first til redline

It is in a 99 2.8 though, and the 99's won't take the tip recoding, wonder if that makes the difference here
