Default Good news, the 99-01 factory rear CD changer works in the 02 S6....

simple to install and I paid $190 + $20 shipping from Zev @ Avalon Motorsports for the factory changer.
Mounts in the left rear compartment using factory wiring that is in a bundle next to the tool kit.
12 CD's at your command with no waiting .
Rear changer is faster to load than dash changer.

Default I'm gonna yank the changer outta my wife's Outback and see if it will go...

in my 4.2...they're both Panasonic, maybe they're the same.

Yeah 12 discs is pretty cool...good price too...good for a mighty long trip

Default what 12 disk changer are you talking about?

I have the OEM (Panasonic produced) rear changer in mine. 6 disks, not 12. What is this 12 disk unit you have? Has far as I know, the changer is proprietary to the Symphony Head Unit. Another vehicle's unit, even it is the same outsource manufacturer, is not likely to work with the Symphony.

Default 6 discs in the 02 dash unit and 6 in the rear changer....

The 02 head unit has the ability to change from the in-dash 6 disc unit and the rear 6 disc unit.

Default Affraid not. The cable that is run to the back of the car terminates

with a different plug to the socket on the Panasonic unit. The convertor shouldn't be too expensive. As another alternative Sony now make a plug compatible unit as part of the Sony Music on Top range and here in the UK they can be had for almost half the price of the Panasonic and waaaaay below the OEM product
