Default Got a 2000 A6 2.7t, 5AT tiptronic thanks for help for these three problems

Hi, guys, new to here to say "Hi" and ask for help. My car, 2000 A6 2.7t, 5AT tiptronic, 125 k miles. Now my car has several problems I want to fix. Thank you very much for your suggestion!

1, The button on the gear selector (the small, white button on the left of the selector which should be pushed down in order to shift out from park) is partially stuck inside when the gear is in park. The problem prevents the key from turning all the way to the off position and the key is stuck in ignition. The dash does show the selector is in park. It appears that in all other positions the button is all the way out. To remove the key, I have to wiggle the button a little bit and pull it out. Should I lube the button a little bit? What lube should I use? Will WD-40 damage anything? Do you think will WD-40 help? Thank you very much!

2, the release button for the driver headrest is missing. How can I adjust the headrest? I push the things inside the hole but didn't work.

3, The CEL is on with P1423 ( Sec.Air Inj.Sys.,Bank1 Flow too Low) and P0421 (Warm Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)). The car is running great so I think I am going to deal with them later. But any suggestion will be appreciated.

Default 3 possible solutions

1- order a new shifter..isn't the button chrome

2- Find a new head rest.. check junk yards maybe??

3- Have same code P0421.. cat's not working correctly on passenger side.. new cat(s) in the future!

Interesting priorities. I'd fix the CEL first.

Default How does the headrest locking mechanism work?

OK, thanks guys. Now I am still waiting for the service manual. Is there an easy way to find the info to replace the headrest? Thank you! And anybody knows how the locking mechanism on this headrest works? Thanks.

Default Constructive & potentially helpful suggestions

1. Lubricants with Silicone will be fine, but you probably have to replace the button & spring assembly
Leather (Black) : 4B1713141J-KQA
Leatherette (Black) : 4B1713141H-KQL

2. Pushbutton is 4b0881980A + your color code e.g. 2SK for Tan/Melange, 6DP for Black/Onyx. When you get the part just line it up with the outside shape of the hole (it will only be flush if going in correctly) and the holes where the tabs click in (self-evident when you see the button). Then push it in and it will lock into place. You may have to wiggle the headrest to get it to lock in.

Once it is in there I wouldn't touch it again. They are spring loaded and tend to pop right back out breaking the tabs.

3. Neither of these faults are critical but you won't pass emissions testing. It may be indicative of a leak on the 2ndary air injection pump into the passenger side head. Check the thick (~3/4" diameter) spider hose at the rear of block that plugs into the combi valve assembly at the rear of passenger side head.
After that I'd try swapping the O2 sensor and then as a last ditch I'd replace the cats. The latter is the most expensive option so prey it is not the case or look for some use cats from wreckers.

Good luck.

Default Thanks! One more question

Thanks guys! That's very helpful!

One more question, especially to VR_life, where can I order the parts in those part numbers? I know dealerships should be fine. Any other places? Sorry I am totally new to Audi and googled several websites but didn't find a way to get those parts by the numbers. Thanks again!

Default Many places to order Audi parts - probably the easiest is WorldImpex.com

If the Shipping & Handling seems ridiculously expensive online - it is ! The secret is to call them by phone to get a more reasonable price.

When ordering from a dealer : If you are a member of North America Audi Club you can get 10% off parts. If you order parts at a dealer where you also get service you may be able to get up to 20% off.
