Default Got a quote for the timing belt service on my 2.7t $2100....

I got a quote from Autobahn Performance in Peabody,MA of $2100 to do the timing belt, serpine belt, tensioners, crank seals, water pump, etc., basically the 90-100k mile service for my 2.7T, i just hit 90K so its time to do it soon. The quote was $800 parts and $1300 labor at $70/hr. This shop specalizes in performance tuning for Porsche, VW, Audi, anyone have any experience with them? does this sound like an alright price for the job being done? I thought it sounded straight but i just wanted to get some other opinions. Would the parts be cheaper if I bought them myself on the net?

Autobahn Performance

Default Some guy on the allroad forum just posted a HUGE 2.7 procedure

Why not print it out, source the parts yourself and bring it to a competent mechanic with low overhead? It's not that hard, just a timing belt....all cars need them replaced.

Make sure they have vag-com.....you could save yourself at least $600 in my book.

Default Sounds a bit high. Try Brian's Garage in Needham...

a bit further south, right off 128 Needham/Newton, and fairly good prices.

Default Don't try to skimp on parts prices, because they will just charge a higher labor rate...

most shops around Boston will charge you $90/hr or so if you supply your ownparts. Autobahn has a great reputation, for both quality and high prices. Give Brian in Needham a call. Most local guys here have used him.
