I did that all freehand by the way.
$1072 - that's what I owe to pick up my car. That is 10 hours labor (Sewickley actually said they had more time in it and they are eating it, and I believe them) for diagnosing the electrical problem. The electrical problem is related to the module that controls my motion sensor in the car. Its failure made my OBD-II sensor stop responding.
That's one thouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuusand seVENTy TWO dollars.
According to my extended warranty company they do not cover diagnoses fees. I don't have the contract in front of me, so I'm not sure whether that is BS or not. Of course, I never in my wildest dreams imagined that a car would be so ****ing poorly designed so as to require 10 hours to diagnose a problem.
**** YOU AUDI, you just lost a LOYAL customer.
Thank you, that is all.

Did they fix it and now the OBD-II port works? You know, it's only four wires I think. Probably just some broken connection somewhere.
I would of done the troubleshooting for you - only at the cost of $536 - that's half!

after the 1st 2-3 hours, they should have stopped, and and called you.
In fact, I think by law that have to give you a max $$ amount you authorize.
I would want to see a list of EVERY test they ran, with the print outs and the times involved.
I would want to talk to the tech and the shop forman.

that they all share the same BUS, power, whatever, I'm not sure. If one of the components shorts it out, it screws up a bunch of related systems. Rosstech has info on it on their website in reference to aftermarket radios causing the same problems.
I found some information on it somewhere, but basically you have to start upluging all the modules until you find the one that is shorting it out. They had to take out the entire interior of the car to do this - dash, seats, everything.
The OBD-II port works now - yipee.

an extended warranty that DOESN'T cover diagnosis? That's the $$HARD part! The actual "fix" probably took 30 seconds!! Also, why are you being so cavalier about the fact that "no money has changed hands yet"? THEY HAVE YOUR CAR, and can slap a mechanics lien on it if things get ugly.
I really am sorry for your troubles, but your situation is the quintessential example of why I would never own an Audi out of (factory) warranty.

I'm having the contract faxed over right now to review it. As for the lien, that isn't going to happen. My father has purchased 3 cars from them, my brother 2, my girlfriend 1, me, and between referrals etc. I'd say we are good for another dozen.
I want to look at this contract before I do anything. When I originally reviewed it I recall that diag fees were only NOT covered if a problem was NOT found.
