hand brake compensator

Hi, my parking brake needs to be adjusted as it is activating the e-brake light even when it's fully disengaged.
I was surprised to find that the cables are zip tied at the hand brake compensator (the Bentley calls it). According to ETKA the hand brake lever and the adjuster are one assembly so I can't really tell if the previous owner has broken anything and used zip ties instead.
For those more experienced, does the brake cable just go directly into the hand brake compensator once adjusted properly?
Thanks for reading.

I've never had to adjust the handbrake on a V8 audi in 14 years and 180K on one and 118K on the other.
Wonder what is going on at the caliper? New cable?

I plan to replace the rear pads and rotors as they are worn beyond their life, maybe like -5%? lol...
The rear calipers are rusted and not in very good shape either. They are on my list to replace/rebuilt as well.
In terms of the cable and the hand brake compensator side, I am not sure if the cables were replaced (or adjusted) before or not. It just looks odd to me that there are zip ties on them.
By the look of it, the Passenger side cable is longer and so the compensator is sort of twisted towards the left side. This is not normal, correct? I mean shouldn't it be adjusted evenly?
Thanks for the reply!

I finally got to the rear brakes and the hand brake compensator is now fixed. I got rid of all the zip ties also.
The rear capliers were both completely seized and I also had to redo a bubble flare since the brake line was broken (long story).
Thanks for pointing me towards the right direction Sloop! Now the parking brake is working great again
