Default That's the OD for A8 tires/wheels, not the A6, which is about 1.2" less in diameter

Don't do it.

Default I just ran 245/45/17's at the track (road america) over the weekend

I have stock sport suspension and H-sport sway bars. No problems with rubbing. If the car was slammed there would most likely be an issue.

Default 255/35/18 on 2.7t front

I have been running 255/35/18 on 8.5x18" BBS RK2 rims for about a year. I get very slight rubbing when making a very sharp turn and going over a large bump. I believe the scraping is the upper inner fender attachment screw. Some people running these wide tires are removing just the upper screw and say that the rubbing stops.
By the way I am not sure what car you have but the size tires you suggest would not seem correct for an A6. The diameter would be too large for correct speedo reading, and would also lower the effective gearing of the car.

"The diameter would be too large for correct speedo reading, and would also lower the effective gearing of the car."

You are correct, but my other ride came with 26s, but it's got 37s (its a jeep), so speedo means very little to me. Gearing... it's over geared in 1st and 5th anyways... I have a 99 a6 2.8 quattro. How does a rs6 fit 255/40/18s and its lowered?
