Default Has anyone changed the (so called) subwoofer. The sound is very good for a standard system but I

wish the bass was faster and not as boomy. I have also given thought to changing the other speakers to MB Quarts but I'm not sure about the results this would yield. I am also an audiophile and have a problem with those 2 little speakers in the trunk that are called subs but really are not. Has anyone done anything with the subwoofer, speakers or sound system in general?

I can't recall if you got the 200w Bose? Mine sounds fine.

Default To my audiophile ear the bass is slow, muddy and boomy. It's not in tune with the rest of the system

It doesn't have a real subwoofer. Besides, when I compare it to my home system it's really lacking. I do have the only system available in the 4.2 and it is the best that's come with a car that I've had. I guess I'm very picky srosie.

Default dunno about slow or muddy

But it sure is boomy. It is too loud and no way to turn it down.

You'll probably never match your home system. You don't have the physical space or power reserve to run a large home-sized subwoofer.

I'm sticking with it, despite its flaws.

Default I think I know what you mean, the subwoofer in our Saab wagon...

places the bass in the backround just right and never seems overpowering. (muddy=fuzzy?) I didn't know the 200w Bose was standard on the 4.2. It should be at any rate.

BTW, I signed up for a 2 day driving class up at Road America (Elkart Lake, Wisconsin) later this summer.

Default Steve, my home system doesn't have or need a sub. My comments are aimed at what you are

experiencing: the bass doesn't blend with the rest of the system.

I like the Bose system. Nothing is perfect.

Default I have 2.7 non bose and its too boomy

I have to set the bass levels almost to the mid point to get away from the booming. Also I only hear the front speakers so I have to use the fader and click it 3 or 4 spots to the rear speakers to get any kind of seperation.
