Default has anyone had the airbag clockspring replaced recently? mine's in the shop

for some other services and i was going to have them replace the clockspring as that's what's been diagnosed as the problem for the airbag light being on. the car has never been in an accident or had the steering wheel removed (my mechanic said that's probably the only reason to have a failure), but my concern is he originally said it was a $250 part, and then upon ordering it by the part# found out that it had been superceded a couple times by a new part# and is now a $400 part. what's bothering me is why has the part been superceded a couple times? is it because of numerous reported failures? - if so, shouldn't there be some sort of recall on this part? if anyone has any experience with this, i'd appreciate any info you might have as i'd like to bring this up with AoA for a possible reimbursement. i just assume not fix it but my wife has been nagging me to get it done already

Default I think I remember the c.$250 price when I replaced mine 3 or 4 years ago.

Not sure how it's held up, as I've since sold the car.

Default If you can get the part number, check out www.worldimpex.com...

this website will give you the discount and the current retail price of the part, but you need to have the part number to search. I think $400 is absurd, should be about $250-300

Default mechanic won't warranty work if i buy the part, plus it's already in the shop and

it's been there a week already and my wife is getting tired of driving me around, so at this point, i just want to get it done. but what i want to know is why the part changed and jumped in price from 250 to $400. i can't imagine a part would change part #'s for no reason unless a change was made to the part, and if a change was made, there surely must have been a problem with the original part

Default

It is a moving part and subject to wear. Not common, but not a surprise either.
