Hazard relay questions.

The symptoms; With the car off or running the hazard triangle remains illuminated and the indicator lights stay on but do not flash. The directionals do not flash. The problem was intermittent after the interior had a thorough soaking due to the sun roof being left open. I dried the car and the problem went away for a few days. I came out to the car to head home from work and the lights were on again. Pressing the switch a few time caused them to go off for a few miles.
I got a new hazard relay... same issue... plug it in and the lights come on.
The switch I removed is part# 4B0 941 509 C, The replacement ends with 'D'. The original has 9 pins the replacement has 10.
Does 'D' replace 'C' or do I have an issue elsewhere?
Should I get a gallon of kerosene and a match and thoroughly 'dry' the car?
Thanks for any assistance.

I think the car thinks it crashed. Doors will not lock electrically... they try but pop back to unlock.
Got a K1 short to ground. Still digging...
