Default Hazard Signal (Flasher) Switch Removal

OK before I get out the 2lb sledge, is there any secret to removing the hazard switch in the dash? Because I ain't gettin' it!

I've read the FAQs, reviewed the available pics but after removing the plastic trim piece, try as I might, I cannot remove the switch. Of course I was able to remove the red triangle part thereby exposing the innards of the switch.

I know from pictures that there is a sort of spring on the left side of the housing that I'm guessing keeps the part in its place in the dash, but needle nose pliers and other shiv-like devices notwithstanding all it will do is wiggle!

What am I doing wrong? Where else should I look? Thanks in advance...

Default Take needle nose pliars

It was very difficult to do on my car too, and I used needle-nose pliars. You'll probably end up damaging the plastic a little (where the pliars grip), but it will be invisible once assembled back.

A real pain.

Check to be sure that there's no dried out spilled coke or whatever sticking things together - the PO of my A6 spilled so much pop from the cup holder that I'm still digging it out of crevices; it actually stuck the Symphony radio head in so I could barely get it out...

Thanks for sharing Jim. I'm no Boston Driver but I thought even I could do something what appeared to be so simple a task. Now I know otherwise.
