Default Heater hose replacement? DIY link..Stoney's does not have DIY.

My hose tore right at the nipple of the heater hose within the firewall. The the hose is one peice right? So I would have to replace the hose from heater core to engine block. As far as I checked it's one peice. If other wise how can I see it. It's so cramped in there. I took everything off that I could to get to that area in engine area and battery. I had to temp fix this issue with some Hi-temp RTV silicone, window screen mesh, then two layors of "Gorrilla Duct tape". I don't think it will hold for long. The heat weakens the tapes bond and RTV is not good at holding back pressue.
Do I have to drop the motor for this? No other way? My two hands can't fit in that nook.

Default What engine do you have??

I have a similar situation, but my heater hose (the top one) sprung a leak in the bend. I rigged up a splice using a plastic right angle adapter and some heater hose from NAPA. The problem is that the Audi hose opens to a larger diameter than the off the shelf hose and doesn't fit the adapter very well. I need to find a better solution.

I can kind of see where the hose connects to the engine, but it does look very difficult to access.

Default Re: What engine do you have??

I have the 30valve V6 quattro. My heater hose broke at the nipple of the heater core. I want to replace the whole hose, but at the moment I fixed it by splicing a random hose(I bought an elbow with two different diameters at autozone) to the original hose. I used a pipe from homedepot and 2 clamps to finish the job. But at the moment I still need to figure out how to replace the whole hose without having to drop the motor.

Default Here is a photo of the hoses from below when I had the transmission out.....

....this is a 2.7T motor and so is different than yours, butI believe the heater hose arrangement is similar. The hoses connect to rigid piping on the engine with quick-connect fittings. See the metal spring-clip? Just slide it back and the hose will come off (be ready to plug the pipe). You are correct that the hose with plastic quick-connect fitting is all one piece. I have accessed the hose in the picture from above to replace an O-ring in the fitting. You may have to take some things apart to get your hand in there, but without seeing the 3.0 engine bay, I can't comment further.

Default Excellent picture! I've been looking for that...

Looks like the same type of connection as on the radiator. Quick disconnect in theory, anyway. If they're as much of a struggle as the radiator hoses, that could be very tough in those confined quarters.

Do you have a picture of the connection for the other hose at the engine?

Default No, sorry - the other one is similar except that it has a right-angle bend in the plastic body, and

is just off to the right in that picture (you can see the second hose, just not the fitting on the end of it).
