Wow! How to ruin a good week. Get in your reliable A6 and your stuuck in Park. Any ideas? And don't say step on the brake! Well Good old Audi picked the car up and towed it to the dealer. Emergency service means they don't look at it for 4 days. Nice. I am under Audi Assured so I bought it off a lease. Just 6,000 miles and odometer reads 42,000.
Symptoms:Engine Check light has come on. When you depress the brake pedal it does not release the transmission to shift. I parked on a steep incline when this happened. I did get it into neutral by holding the shift button on transmission then turned car off, shift to neutral and I could move the car. Car did move after rolling a little but then it wouldn't shift and dash lights for transmission position were not lighted. When I tried to put into reverse I could not shift it from neutral on way to reverse. Then I was stuck again and unable to get out of Park or Nuetral. Well Any ideas. Could be many things but has anyone heard or expereinced this? And what sort of service should I expect to get from Audi Assured? Any Ideas?????

If not, the transmission was locked in park. That may be the reason the transmission wouldn't shift. You may have bent the linkage...or worse.
If you used the emergency brake, there is a switch on most vehicles that actually prevents you from shifting if the brake has not been applied. This may be the problem. I had this happen on a rental from Enterprise recently (12,000 miles on the car). I thought I was stranded, but it decided to cooperate.
Let us know what happened.

I thought that it might be the fuse but no other system other than dash lights out for Trasmission position and the engine check light on.
This all happened in a big rain storm. With being parked to begin with, on a steep incline.
Fuse?? Shift lock sensor??? I wonder? How about service for this problem?

here is what happened....Dealer looks at eh car and comes up with a whooper. The engine control unit took on water and blew. Henece not letting me get it out of Park. about $3000.00 but covered under audi assured :-)
Cause....Water came in through pollen filter and soaked the carpet, wicking the water up to the engine control module. Carpet had to be dried and they fixed the pollen filter unit. I think the car responds better with this new module. Maybe I got an upgrade???
