Default HELP HELP, A new problem has occured

I am in Park, parked. The brake lights do not come on when I hit the brakes and I cannot shift out of park, is this some sort of fail safe device? Is it a fuse problem? I don't know what to do aside of call a flat bed and have it taken to the dealer? What can I do? I cant get the damn thing outa park and I have no brake lights anywhere, not the dash right or left. When I lock it though they light up for a second or is that a seperate bulb. Please advise, all of you?

Default Its sounds as if the shift lock switch has failed or the

brake sensitivity has been adjusted somehow. I cannot remember if there is a relay or not controlling the shift lock switch. There is a solenoid and that could be gone IIRC. I know this does not help you get your car going but check on the relay portion.

Also, someone has a pretty damn good diagram of the brake sensitivity adjustment and also the shift lock mechanism. I cannot remember how to defeat it however.

Default Obviously I'm not an Audi owner, but I'd try this first........

Disconnect the battery cable for 5 minutes, then reattach and try again.

These German cars often have electronic gremlins and disconnecting the battery is sorta like doing a hard-boot on your computer.

Good Luck!

Default The ECU does have some connection . . .

to the brake sensitivity switch so this is not a bad idea. Especially given the circumstances.

Default Nah, my posts are often misinterpreted in their tone, tense, or emotion. . .

often I forget to add the damn emoticons or preview before posting. So I either come off as dry, insulting, boring, long-winded, or shallow (or a combination of AOTA).

I just thought it was a good idea and better to try that before digging into the relay panel etc. . . Also I remember someone posting about a modification and they had a pretty damn good diagram. In the post they mentioned a connection betweent he ECU and the brake switch.

Default everything interlocks for it to start

brakes, ignition, steering lock, etc.

If you are getting no brake lights, then there is a problem with that part. Dig around near the brake pedal and see if you accidently kicked a wire off the brakelight sensor

Default I was trying to be careful, your therapist posted about your fragile state and asked us

to reinforce your thoughts and ideas. No matter how ridiculously stupid, off topic, or technically inaccurate. Hell I was surprised you contributed a minutely worthwhile piece of information to the forum. Don't make me pull a McLaren on you!!

Is this better. You need the tough love to feel good. :-)

I recommended using rubber gloves to change your oil once. Does that count?
